Can I press my hair lightly then perm it the next day or maybe two days later?

I've been wearing braids all year because stress broke my hair off so badly I had a patch!! Now prom is coming up and I want to get extensions or maybe even wear it down in a wrap. I'm afraid to just go ahead and get a perm because I'm afraid of the results. So what I was going to do was take out my braids a couple days before prom get my hair straightened (because taking out you braids and getting a perm the next day is not a good idea) and get a perm the day of will that hurt my hair?

Yeah, it's okay. It's just not get to put all that heat on your hair, though. It isn't good to get a perm after braids, though either. The beautician won't be able to tail wear the new growth is, and she might overprocess. It's better to lightly press the hair, with a mild hot comb, just so she be able to tell where the new growth is. If your hair is based real good, it won't hurt.

If your hair is prone to breaking, a perm is the LAST thing you need! Extensions are about the second to last thing you need.

you sure can. my friends mom did that and her hair is HOT!

That wouldn't be a good idea. NEVER use a perm and a get hair straightened at the same time. Doing this can further damage. I would suggest taking out the braids, wash and deep condition the hair, and wait at LEAST a week before perming the hair.

Do NOT put a relaxer on your hair if it has been breaking off!!! You need to work on the overall health of your hair rather than relying on a quick fix, such as a relaxer. As an African-American woman, you need to be mindful that our hair thrives on moisture. And a lack of it, combined with stress will continue to take a toll on your hair unless you fix it now!

Your best bet for prom would be to take out the braids, and get a salon quality deep conditioner such as VO5 or BioSilk. Then have your stylist do a sew-in weave, preferably something with spiral curls or ringlet. This will allow a beautiful, full look for your hair without adding more chemical damage to it. Finally, ask her to press the edges of your hair, around your hairline. Add some cute hair accessories to match your dress and you will be ready to step out for your prom.
