cornrows are going to last longer and look better. It really depends on that style that you are going for. What do you mean work better? If you are braiding your hair to help it grow or keep it from being damaged, go with cornrows. Personally, I think cornrows are a better bet overall.

What kind of hair do you have. Fine? Use the hang down braids as you call them. Course curly hair? Use the corn rows.

On natural hair, natural braids or corn rows without extensions are about equal. Both, either can be nice. Its a matter of taste and hair type. I love to wear braids.

1. Never let anyone cornrow your hair using artificial or human hair braided in at the scalp. It will look great, but such cornrows are nearly always too tight. They look great, but leave you with a sore, itchy scalp taht can blister and become infected and cause alopecia (hair loss). Only have your natural hair cornrowed. It wont last as many weeks, but it wont hurt or itch, and will allow your hair to rest and grow. Dont think the pain is worth it--its too dangerous. I have seen children cry and weep for mercy while getting these styles-- I dont know why their parents put them through this expensive torture!!!

2. Hanging braids can take 8 to 10 hours to put in and take many hours to remove. They, too can be too tight, if exra hair is added at the scalp and braided in. Be care.

Make sure your hair is braided when squeaky clean. If your braider doesnt wash your hair or ask you if you washed it the day you came in, be suspicious. If your braider is eating or smoking while braiding your hair you are asking for trouble.
