It depends on what type of hair you have. Most people with thick hair can get braids without a lot of breakage. You will have some shedding though once you take the braids out. That's completely natural for your hair to shed though. Don't confuse that with breakage. If you get relaxers make sure you wait at least 2 weeks after your relaxer before you get your micro-braids.

YES!!!! especially when they are put in tight. It onlys leads to breakage cause the hair is pulled and it breaks!!

Ive seen people get braids that didnt break off there hair, but they were very particular to tell the hairdresser to not make the braids to tight or too small. They would stop the hairdresser everytime she pulled the hair too tight. But even with that you have to take care of your hair, keep it cleaned and oiled and dont leave them in for too long because the hair will get weak and fall of anyway.
