5 cm is quite ok 4 dreads or braids... if u add extensions 4 the braids then evrytings fine.

Please don't get dread locks or braids, it damages your hair so badly, when it grows in all you will have is nappy hair at your roots.And you have to cut dreads out.

But if you say your hair is silky i suggest you leave it not everyone has silky hair and once you dread your hair the only way to get rid of your dreads is to cut your hair off.
plus they take a lot of looking after and if you ever got headlice then you would be in a bit of trouble.
